It’s a rare and special thing when one can musically connect with someone else – you dig what they dig, and vice versa. Our global community is based on those connections. It’s within those that we find the local talents that impress us — talents like San Francisco’s Matt Hubert.
After growing up in Irvine, California, it was a 2007 Sasha and Digweed show that gave Matt his first spoonful of dance music. Hours upon hours of practice on decks in his bedroom eventually yielded his first gigs, earning his stripes in the “shady LA rave scene and lackluster OC club scene”, as he puts it.
A move to San Francisco in 2011 got Matt dabbling in the Bay Area nightlife. He recalls a party at The Compound inspiring him to take a chance as an event producer, bringing out Max Cooper for his San Francisco debut the following year.
Now you can find Matt working with our friends at rollingTUFF curating events and at the revered talent agency, Liaison. He’s been boosting his profile around town (and around the country!) with opening slots for some great acts like John Digweed and the whole damn Last Resort 2014 lineup. Upcoming, Matt is opening for none other than Maceo Plex at Public Works.
We were stoked to invite Matt to be a part of our Local Love series. Get to know him through our Local Love questionnaire, plus, listen to and download the mix.
