As newcomers to the New York City scene, we were impressed on so many different levels at Crosstown Rebel’s Rebel Rave this past Saturday at The Well in Brooklyn, put on by Verboten. With Damian Lazarus, Droog, Amirali, Fur Coat and Walker & Royce on the lineup, it’s totally believable the music was up to par (and it very well surpassed that). We were also incredibly grateful for the hospitality shown to us on Verboten’s end. The show was beautiful, the people were beautiful and the vibe was…well… beautiful.
We were also pleased to see quite a fashion-forward crowd – or fashion-conscious, at least. We made a list of some of the different memorable looks we encountered throughout the event. What kind of look do you go for?

← The Cosby sweater look
We admire how well Brett of Droog pulls off a Bill Cosby sweater – the patterned knitted sweaters made famous by the most prominent family man of the 80s. It goes without saying that nobody will ever top Mr. Cosby himself in the sweater arena, but we’re impressed with Brett’s effort.
The free-spirit look →
We get good vibes from the woman in this picture. The long crafted artisan earrings, the funky hair and the blowing-kiss gesture have us convinced she’s a free spirit. We like to believe that she’s the kind of person good underground music attracts.
← The Mexican Priest look
We actually didn’t come up with this one – it was overheard at the party, and probably the inspiration for this piece. Damian is known for his style. It’s very sorcerer-esque, and we adore his uniqueness. Who knew you could drape black fabric around you in so many different styles? We ask, “Where do you shop, Damian?” We’re thinking Diagon Alley.
The Robot Heart look →
She’s got the oh-so-coveted Robot Heart glasses that were passed out to a select few at Burning Man. And by ‘select’ I of course mean the whole camp, all the invited artists and a decent chunk of the Robot Heart partygoers. We’ve got a couple floating around at home. In any case, we love her for representing the legend, because we in fact have an even deeper love for Robot Heart (and you know when we say “love” in regards to anything that has to do with Burning Man, it’s more profound than just your average “love”).
←The cocky look
You’ve got to respect the guy on the left for being confident, especially when he really can be considered a “pretty motherfucker”. His grammar’s a little off, but brains and beauty don’t always go hand in hand. We give him a 10 for good looks though. The glaring guy on the right is the cocky sidekick. Anyone going for the cocky look must have one.
The hippie hair look →
Ugh, how can a girl be so lovable in just one photo? It’s that gigantic smile and the hippie hair. And sure, we considered her headband when we named the look, but it’s the crazy-frizzy-teased hairstyle that really caught our attention. Thumbs up for the do, though I’d say this photo is missing a peace sign.
←The Alice in Wonderland look
A 13-hour party can start to feel a bit like falling down a rabbit hole and ending up in Wonderland, so this guy had the right idea. Nothing says rave like a top hat, a velvet jacket and a ruffle collar.
The Hot Topic doll look →
Just so you guys can see what masters of description we are here at mybeatFix, we came up with the look for this photo — Hot Topic doll – we Googled it to see if these things actually exist, and found this chick’s mini me, as seen on the right of the photo. The bubble-gum colored wig and oversized bow added a little touch of goth princess to the party. We dig it.
