By the seventh day of Burning Man, the energy on the Playa was inevitably running low, but when “The Outcast” rang through the speakers during Thugfucker’s set at Robot Heart Sunday morning, a magical rejuvenation followed. Luckily, we caught it on video for you.
Released on Labor Day, DJ Tennis’ “The Outcast” EP, with remixes by Life and Death and Morgan Geist, captures a refreshing retro sound, featuring vocals by Sammy D of Pillow Talk, and reflecting a slew of genres and eras. Tennis, real name Manfredi Romano, attributes his admiration for The Beach Boys and The Doors as inspiration for the release.
The Life and Death dark remix adds a melodic smoothness to the track creating a whole different ambiance.
Life and Death and Kompakt have released a new video for “The Outcast” directed by Joee Irwin, cutting up old 8mm family videos.
“We wanted to reflect the outcast nature of our times through imagery of the American nuclear family,” the director explained.
