After years of of working together in and around the underground scene in London, Cozzy D, Lee Brinx and Ed Kane decided to put their efforts together and create a platform for local London talent to shine on. With this, Lower East Records was born in 2010.
The trio has since then put together both a solid crew of in-house talent as well as collaborations and releases from other well know artists around the world. The team at Lower East includes the likes of Alexis Raphael, Tom Budden, Wildkats, Viadrina and a handful more of great up-and-coming talent. They have also released music from renowned producers, Lee Foss, Uner, Gavin Herlihy, Nima Gorji, NTFO and Richy Ahmed.
In The coming months the label has tons of music coming out from Alfred Taylor, Alexis Raphael, Viadrina, Quintin Christian & Vandermeer and co label head, Cozzy D. In Anticipation for these releases and as part of our latest series, “International Label Spotlight” we got a chance to chat with Cozzy D about being a part of Lower East and what went into making it a reality.

Reason/ Concept behind creating the label: At the time of the label’s inception, we, as artists from London, felt there was quite a lot of talent that wasn’t necessarily getting the exposure they should be. We wanted to provide a platform to push these artists and give them the exposure they deserved. We also felt it was time to give London it’s own stamp on the music industry. From there the imprint has grown and we have welcomed international talents such as Puente & Rosch and Viadrina to the stable.
Production experience: The label has been going for just over two years now- launching in June, 2010.
Inspirations (DJing, producing, life in general): Musically our influences are vast. Our roots lie predominantly in old school garage, classic house and drum & bass. However, we also take inspiration from all kinds of electronic music, as well as 80s, soul, disco and hip-hop etc etc.
Current projects on the label: Alfred Taylor’s EP, Akagi, with a remix from Cozzy D and Lee Brinx (LOW023). And also, Alexis Raphael’s, The Message (LOW024). Inner Circles Volume 2 (LOW025) featuring original tracks from 10 of our artists is also available now.
Future projects or plans for the label: On the 8th of October Viadrina will be releasing the Cellardoor EP (LOW026) and in November, Quintin Christian & Vandermeer will release the Bred For Pleasure EP (LOW027). Cozzy D is also preparing an EP for release in December (LOW028).
