Stacey Pullen talks Blackflag Recordings and Upcoming Projects

This past Friday, techno legend Stacey Pullen pulled out quite the set at Treehouse, one of our favorite spots here in Miami. If you were there, you know Stacey’s set was nothing short of amazing. People were piling into Treehouse’s front room to witness Detroit’s finest and the vibe was incredible. Still packed at 5 a.m., nobody wanted to leave. We got to ask Stacey a few questions about his record label and career beforehand. Here’s what he had to say:

As an avid producer and DJ, which one are you currently focusing on more?
My career is like having a coin, one side of the coin is “heads” and the other is “tails”. You can not have one without the other, it’s like ying and yang — inseparable.

Are you planning on releasing other artists’ work on your label Blackflag Recordings?
I have Releases from Sergio Fernandez coming in August. Nathan Barrato which is one of Carlo’s best mates, Tony Dee and Saso Recyd are releasing on Blackflag also. My followup single called “Any Which Way” with a remix by Martin Buttrich, will be out in the fall and lastly, I’ll be re-releasing some of my back catalog.

Being a Detroit native and having traveled all over the world over the past 20 years, what cities inspire you most musically and why?
I don’t really get inspired by any cities in particular. I enjoy the culture and being socially aware of my presence and then I come home with inspiration from all of the places I’ve traveled.

I attended Movement Festival in Detroit this year for the first time, and I was impressed by how all of the artists seem to play their best sets and give their all. What would you say is your favorite part about Movement?
To be at home and sleep in my own bed is the best feeling considering that most festivals I play at I’m in hotels.

You’ve been collaborating with Nic Fanciulli lately. Can we expect more upcoming collaborations with other artists?
It’s always a possibility and depending on how you look at it, doing remixes is similar to collaborating because you are vibing to what they’ve done.

Having played in Miami many times before, what do you look forward to when coming here?
The traffic.

Check out Stacey Pullen’s track Circus Act along with Nic Fanciulli’s remix and buy them on Beatport here.
