Luciano Mixes Vagabundos 2012

Cadenza boss and head Vagabundo, Luciano is ready to release his follow up to this year’s earlier Vagabundos mix. The series began in an effort to showcase the wide musical shadow the Vagabundos cover with their sound. The first mix (his first mix release since Fabric 41 exactly four years ago) came out in January and focused on a deeper, more melodic and spacey sound. Vagabundos 2012 aims towards a sound drawn from his summer spent in Ibiza and is set for release later this month.

The clandestine gypsy DJs are right in the thick of their summer long residencies at Pacha Ibiza and possibly the most famous pool party on the planet at Ushuaia (alongside a plethora of friends as well). The mix takes listeners on an hour and 20 minute trip to Ibiza via tracks from Luciano himself, fellow Cadenza artists and producers from around the world including DJ W!ld, NTFO, Plaid, The Sushi Club, Romanthony and Kink.

In true Luciano form the mix goes on a true journey through sound. The early moments are ambient and minimal with Le K’s “The 25th of February Anatomy” which slowly creeps up with Caribbean precessions and those hats (Luciano fans know the hats I speak of.) Fantastic deep-tech tracks like Nick Harris’ “Surfing With Kilgore”, Technasia’s “Michigan Ride” and BBQ’s “BBQ Bounce” begin raising the tempo and key to a sound I remember being introduced to in 2007 with Luciano’s performances at Pacha.

Long build ups made possible by his multiple layers and loops of DJ W!ld’s “Catania Blues”, and Rhadow’s remix of NTFO’s “Tremble” keep building the excitement and peak with a bouncing-tech banger from Sarp Yilmaz, “Shoot”. Cadenza label mates start making their way into the mix with Dani Casarano and El Pocho– the sound is now in full Vagabundo tech mode and grooving along.

Always known to experiment, Luciano starts closing out with a wildly creative collab from Marc Romboy and Luciano-set-regular, Kink, “Dont Shake My Tree.” Mellowing out now, we get a flashback to 2010 with “Somewhere We Got” by the mixer himself until the mix slowly fades out with loops of “Dont Shake My Tree” and “Somewhere We Got” slowly peeling back into silence.

Another wonderful execution of experimental tech house laced with latin percussion, spacey ambiance and melodies from who I still consider the most creative DJ in the world. Vagabundos 2012 will be available by the end of July, both digitally and on CD.
