Fresh Fix: Climbers’ 2 Come Back EP on Culprit

The Mexicali duo from LA is seriously making a splash on the scene. After forming Climbers only a year ago, Jay Blakk and Kiko Deal have already released on Culprit, Lower East, Noir Music and Electronique. Their debut, Law Of Attraction EP, catapulted their fresh take on deep house into charts, sets and record bags around the world.

The latin duo consistently put down true four-on-the-floor house percussions, funky electro basslines, atmospheric synths and those old school vocals that keep making their way into my Beatport shopping cart. Their next project is coming out later this month and after getting a sneak peak we can say with confidence that these tracks will be making it into most of your Beatport charts as well. We got a chance to ask Jay and Kiko a few questions about the 2 Comeback EP in our latest installment of Fresh Fix.

EP Name: 2 COME BACK

Record Label: CULPRIT

Release date:  30TH OF JULY, 2012

Genre(s): DEEP HOUSE

Concept or theme behind EP: It’s a simple idea, really -  just having fun with the track everytime you hear it, either in the club or the car  or wherever you are, just leaving all your inhibitions and have fun in dancing. It’s meant to set the mood, both deep but danceable too.

EP production experience (i.e. inspiration; obstacles; how long it took; finding remixers, etc): Our biggest inspiration was a friend of ours who was having such a difficult time with things in his life, so we sort of wanted to cheer him up and try to make a track that could make him “work his body and move his body” and forget everything else. You know that time when you try to support friends when they need it with what we do best, which is, probably, write dance music.

We’ve been lucky with this release, because we have been truly big fans of Fur Coat and Miguel Campbell, so to have them as remixers is a privilege. When it came to Fur Coat, we reached out to Israel Sunshine ourselves  and ask him if he liked the track and what his thoughts were -  he loved it and straight away they jumped in doing the remix and finished it within a week of getting the parts from us. We thought, “wow these guys are on fire! and they clearly are feeling the song!” – which is all you can ask from a remixer.

And for Miguel Campbell, Andrei of Culprit thought of the idea to get him involved – it was a surprise for us at first, becaue Andrei only revealed it once the remix was finished. But we were ecstatic when we found out Miguel was part of the release now – apparantly he agreed straight away too, which was another vote of confidence for us. And he did a magnificent remix for sure, we know Miguel and he is such an incredible person and that reflects on his productions so we are extremely happy to have both amazing artists onboard.

Favorite track on the EP:  To tell you the truth we cannot name just one track, because each version leads you in different directions but you get the feeling and the groove of each one, because it has its own vibe.

Artists supporting EP: Damian Lazarus, Richy Ahmed, Hot Toddy, Jozif,  Matt Tolfrey, Jamie Jones, Art Department, Luca Bacchetti, Russ Yallop and many more.
