The Nervo twins talk studio rats, modeling and Ibiza

After first seeing the Nervo twins perform at Identity Festival and watching them rock the BAO Dome at Ultra Music Festival 2012, I was determined to snag an interview with the Australian duo. From writing and producing, to modeling and performing, these smoking hot blonde sisters can do it all.

So, when I heard the girls were going to be back in Miami to play at Mansion Nightclub, the little blogger in me was set on getting an interview, watching the show and obviously reviewing.

Here’s what happened when mybeatFix caught up with the girls:

So let’s start with the obvious, you guys are twins. What’s it like doing everything together? Do you think it’s better to be on the road touring because you have each other?
Liv: We only know how to be together really, since the start of time. We really enjoy it. A lot of the “badness” that other DJs deal with is that they’re on the road alone. Even if you get put up in beautiful hotels, you know, you’re by yourself and it pretty much turns the experience the other way around.
Mim: Yeah. Where as Liv and I will go to one of these lovely hotels, have a nice meal, and be like “WOOOO.”

Nervo

Do you guy spend much time on your solo careers?
Liv: Um, no, everything we do at some point comes together. For instance, say Mim is working on some vocals, I don’t need to be sitting there right next to her doing vocals too. So I’ll then work on emails or starting something new. But everything she does, I’m a part of and everything I do she’s a part of.
Mim: Especially because in the production side, you can’t physically have two people working the computer. So when it comes to that, one of us will work and then the other one will comment, we just go back and forth.
Liv: Yeah like Dada Life, they use two studios and it’s amazing.
Mim: I don’t know how they do it though!
Liv: They must have two studios with like, a glass wall in between each other and they’ll work on an idea and be like “check this out.” It’s incredible!

I know you guys just signed with Wilhelmina modeling last year. In your career as artists, what do you guys like to do most and what do you actually end up doing most?
Liv: Well, music has always been our focus. We’ve literally been studio rats for the past eight years, so DJing is an exciting thing for us. Being able to see the world has been such a high for us because we were stuck in the studio for so many long. It’s a whole new chapter for us.
Mim: The modeling thing is even more of a new thing. I guess when we were like 16, we both had modeling agents, but that was a long time ago. Now, there are many opportunities coming to us from places like Wilhelmina because of our music. So it’s really flattering to hear that we’re models because we’re really musicians now doing modeling.

Annie: When I saw you guys getting off the stage at Ultra, there were so many people surrounding you and telling you how beautiful you are and how much they love you. How do you take all the flattery? Is it more pressure on you both?
Mim: We definitely feel more pressure now to wear makeup and look good.
Liv: I was in American Apperal the other day buying leggings and since we had a gig the night before, I was a bit of a mess. I just wanted to run in real quick, but then someone noticed me and I was a bit embarrassed. So when that kind of thing happens, it’s like oh my god! Since it’s part of our job and we’re expected to look a certain way, we always try to make an extra effort. But we love dressing up, the best part about our job is that we get to dress up and wear all these fucking clothes and have crazy hair.
Mim: Yeah, if I wore my hair like this normally, people would for sure call me a freak.

Annie: Who have you guys been working with lately music-wise and what kind of stuff can your fans expect to hear in the coming months?
Liv: Our next single that’s coming out is with Avicii and we’ve been doing some other production with him. We’ve also been doing some work with Nicky Romero, one song coming out with Ned Sheppard and Sultan, some more stuff with Guetta, one to finish with Armin Van Buuren –

–so you guys really are studio rats?
Mim: We try and get into the studio as much as possible, but we’ve been really busy.  We love the studio though.

What do you guys have coming up this summer?
Nervo: WERE MOVING TO IBIZA!
Mim: It’s a dream come true and we’ve wanted to do it since we’ve been clubbers and living in London.

Where will you be playing at in Ibiza?

Nervo: Ushuia. Were playing a lot for David Guetta, we’re opening for him for like two months or something. Then we’re also going to have our own nights together, I think it’s going to be called Nervo Nights and we’ll get to invite other artists out for the last month of the season. It’s been a dream of ours to move out there. Do a story on the residents of Ushuia! Haha, we’re so excited!
