In an unforeseen collaboration, Sasha and James Teej teamed up to give us their Bring On The Night EP as the fourth EP release on Sasha’s new imprint, Last Night On Earth. Released mid-March just in time for Winter Music Conference, Bring On The Night saw its share of play in Miami including during My Favorite Robot’s set at the Electric Pickle March 25. I tried to get a video to show you guys, but well, my camera froze and I gave up. Damn refurbished iPhone.
The original “Night Track” is a 10-minute trip into a jumble of retro, mind-bending synths and trippy vocals. It’s the epitome of a track that “takes you somewhere”. In fact, that can probably be said about the entire EP. Very rad. The M.A.N.D.Y. remix feels groovier, and just simply more danceable. Plus, the lead is a straight panty-dropper. “As You Fall” features Teej’s own vocals – raspy, sexy, impressive.

Concept or theme behind EP: The concept behind the EP came out of the initial experimentation we did on some early snippets. Sasha felt that the sound I took “Night Track” towards in the first test-run reminded him of Manchester circa 1986. I took that as my initial source of inspiration, put together some retro sounding synths and rhythms, and we threw in the whole 21st century twist. By bouncing the tracks back and forth, we organically began to fuse our sounds together and it really worked in a unique way. M.A.N.D.Y. came back with an amazing remix that really compliments the two originals, so the whole package sits well together in our eyes.
EP production experience: The process was really just testing the waters initially, and once there was a level of comfort with the sounds we all just moved forward and did our thing. The process took a few months, and we bounced the songs’ tracks back and forth until we were happy with everything. M.A.N.D.Y. was from the beginning the right remixer for this project, and we are all pleased with the entire package.
Favorite Track of the EP: That’s a loaded question. All of the tracks are unique in their own way and have a certain appeal.
