Editor’s picks for the five best sets of WMC 2012

No, I wasn’t at every party. Yes, I did sleep a bit. And no, I didn’t catch Avicii. Despite these undoubtedly shameful facts, this Winter Music Conference is utterly incomparable to anything else on the planet. It was a rush of everything familiar and new — music, friends, venues and intoxicants. I love that I call Miami home.

My list is biased, it’s true, but I dig what I dig. Hi, I’m Gaby Izarra, editor of mybeatFix, and these are my picks for the best sets of WMC 2012.

5. M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Audiofly at Flying Circus; Villa 221 March 21
An expert tag-team, M.A.N.D.Y. and Audiofly’s set at Flying Circus on Wednesday was my final push into WMC mode. Check out the track at :40 in the video. Shake that tambourine? There was actually a chick shaking a tambourine. Impressive.

4. PillowTalk at The Marcy Allstars; Electric Pickle March 22
PillowTalk made a grand entrance onto the scene last year with multiple bomb releases. In this video, the trio spits their new-age doo-wop live at The Marcy All-Stars Wolf + Lamb party at Electric Pickle. What better track to document this fantastic set than the one we all had on repeat last fall, “Soft”.

3. Subb-an at Get Lost; Electric Pickle March 24
It was my first time seeing Subb-an, and oh em gee I had no idea he would go so hard. The energy radiating from the crowd was incredible. Pounding beats and sporadic vocals lead to a mean dance party. I like.

2. Art Department at the No. 19 Yacht Party; March 23
Oh Art Department, how I love thee. These guys never fail to drop a sick set, but this one was just slightly superior to all of their others – and I saw them three times over conference. Kenny got on the mic for “Touch Me Gently”, and if that wasn’t already the icing on the cake, they pulled out the Woon – Jamie Woon’s “Street” that is. Epicness. Enough said.

1. Lee Burridge at All Day I Dream; Cafeina March 24
Lee Burridge tickles my insides. He makes my heart warm every time I see him play. Just peep my bio at the end of this post, and you’ll know it’s true. Blissful is probably the best word in the dictionary that describes Lee’s All Day I Dream parties. I was going to put a video of Lee dropping his latest track with Matthew Dekay, “Fur Die Liebe”, but I thought I’d ask for your help in IDing the track in this video. I’m in desperate need of it. So. F-ing. Good.
