With the recent explosion of electronic music, it’s no suprise that artists are looking for new ways to use, play, and introduce their music. It’s almost as if they’re creating their own little world of neon creatures, bright lights, sick beats, and dancing feet (and trust me I’m not complaining). Now, within this little world, there are many genres of EDM for fans to be well, fans of. And whether it’s through merchandise, elaborate shows, or collaborations, established and upcoming artists are all looking for clever ways to really capture their listeners.
Something I’ve noticed becoming increasingly popular in the electronic bubble is music videos.
Recently, I’ve heard a few people say that they don’t understand how a music video can be created for a song without words. Surely, there are songs that have been produced by artists solely because the artist was “feeling the beat,” but all the DJs I’ve asked claim that their music tells a story. Sometimes when I’m listening to a song, I really wonder what the idea behind the song was, or how the artist decided what to name it. Maybe music videos are the upcoming outlet for DJs to help communicate where the ideas for their songs and music come from.
Whether you think EDM and music videos go together or not is your opinion. If you don’t think they make sense, at least you know you can use them to familiarize yourself with at least some of the artists who release them. Amtrac, an artist who classifies himself on Myspace music as “2-step, electro, tango,” recently dropped his first music video, so I figured why not share a new artist I admire with you guys. The song is called “Rewind” and it’s groovin’. Now, I can’t promise that in every music video you’re going to get a chance to see what the artist looks like. Although in this one, you not only get a glimpse of what Amtrac looks like, but you’ll also get a chance to see him spin (with Diplo!) Enjoy!
