Ferry Corsten

We got to ask No. 9 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list, Trance DJ and producer Ferry Corsten, some questions before his set at LIV Nightclub in Miami Thursday. Promoting his latest mix compilation, “Once Upon A Night, Vol. 2,” Ferry is on a five-week tour through North America.

You have come so far in the last 10 years of your career. What can you tell me about your success?
I think my success is that I always have done my own thing and haven’t been influenced by a sound that was the hype at that moment. I haven’t been afraid to experiment with my own sound and never will be.

Is there anything you would consider the highlight of your career?
Could be the first time I heard my track System F, “Out Of The Blue” being played by really big names in that time. Also very proud of my ‘The Experience’ shows that I did for my album Twice In A Blue Moon and now am doing for the Once Upon A Night (Black Hole) compilation. Takes touring and performing to the next level with specially designed visuals and elements.

Tell me about Once Upon A Night, Vol. 2, and what the response for the album has been like.
The reactions have been really great. Reviews are just in and I am pleased to read them. I knew I liked the compilation but it’s very nice to see that the fans and press agree.

Where else is the Once Upon A Night, Vol. 2 tour taking you? Anywhere you’re particularly excited about?
I am going to Russia soon and also I am going back to Lebanon which I always find very special. The show in Moscow and Beirut are The Experience shows. That’s a six hour musical spectacle with specially designed visuals.

As a man who has greatly influenced dance music, where do you think it’s headed?
I see a fusion of house and trance at the moment. House producers who use trance breakdowns in their productions. In the end all musical genres will return where they came from in a slightly different way.

Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Hope to see you all at LIV and if you’re not there I hope to see you somewhere else. In the meantime follow me on Facebook or Twitter.
